RE: Pathname to extract file on iSeries ~Hank Nimjipygennivu 7.Jan.03 04:10 PM a Web browser Domino Designer 6.0iSeries
You are indeed referencing a folder in the IFS (Integrated File System) on the AS/400. You can drill into the IFS on the 400 with the command WRKLNK.
Back in the olden days (Windows95, Client Access bloated version), you could actually map a drive to the IFS on your PC, and work with it like you are mentioning in your post. That feature is gone with the new Client Access Express.
With a FULL version of Express loaded, you can open the AS/400 Operations Navigator and drill down into the IFS using this tool, but I still don't think you can do a \\ reference to a folder on the IFS using the operating system.
I have chatted with IBM people about this, and they assure me that it is possible to do what you ask, if ALL your configurations are correct, your ducks in a row and constellations are aligned correctly. But I have not gotten it to work.
Try testing your path, by Start, Run, and typing in your path to the AS/400. You will see quickly that you always get an error that the network path was not found.
I think ultimately, 'they' want you to use Client Access to retrieve all your data off the 400. Not quite sure how to do this since I'm a green-screen kind of guy, but Ops-Nav is there for a reason, and I think this is one of them. You might want to look into Client Access and see what it can do for you.
If you figure it out, please post here because IBM has yet to help me w/ it.
